Works Manager

Up to £70,000

Ipswich

We are innovativeand if you are too, we’ll have a lot in common...

We’re seeking a driven Works Manager to take a hands-on leadership role on a major infrastructure project near Leiston. This multi-disciplinary scheme involves the diversion of critical utility assets and encompasses a wide scope of civil engineering works—ranging from drainage and groundworks through to pavement construction, structural steelwork, ductile iron pipework, and reinforced concrete structures.

As part of a self-delivery model where we act as Principal Contractor, you’ll be at the forefront of site operations—managing construction activities, leading teams, and supporting delivery within a highly regulated environment. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on a complex, high-profile project while ensuring safety, quality, and programme requirements are consistently achieved.

The Role:

As Works Manager, you’ll collaborate closely with the Project Lead to manage day-to-day site operations, overseeing site teams and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and to the highest quality standards.

Here are a few of the activities you will be involved with…

  • Managing and allocating the right plant, operatives, and subcontractor resources
  • Driving teams to deliver safely, effectively and to programme
  • Undertaking site inductions and safety briefings
  • Ensuring high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Monitoring labour, plant, materials and subcontractor costs, and supporting with reporting and forecasting
  • Ensuring compliance with business management systems and quality expectations
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients and suppliers
  • Delivering works to agreed timescales, budgets, and contract conditions
  • Championing good workmanship and a proactive safety culture on site

We would love to hear from you if…

You have demonstratable extensive experience (ideally 10 years+) on complex civil engineering schemes, including highways, utilities, structures, and drainage. You’ll be confident managing plant-heavy operations and leading multidisciplinary site teams.

You must hold a CSCS card, SMSTS certification, and a full UK driving licence. We also require a Lifting Appointed Person qualification, and ideally Temporary Works Supervisor training and Confined Spaces certification. A background in regulated environments and the ability to communicate, plan, and lead effectively are key to success in this role.
