Stores Supervisor

We have an opportunity for an experienced Stores Supervisor to join our Plant Team, leading the day-to-day operation of our Parts and Stores function and supporting the availability and performance of a diverse fleet of vehicles, plant, tools and specialist equipment.

Reporting to the Head of Fleet Procurement, you’ll oversee stock control, supplier management, warehouse operations and team supervision, ensuring parts and consumables are available when required while maintaining strong inventory controls and managing costs effectively.

Here are some of the activities you will be involved in…

  • Overseeing the daily operation of the central parts and stores facility.
  • Managing goods-in and goods-out processes, ensuring stock movements are accurate and traceable.
  • Maintaining appropriate stock levels to support fleet maintenance, repairs and operational requirements.
  • Carrying out regular stock counts and cycle checks, investigating discrepancies and taking corrective action.
  • Identifying slow-moving, obsolete and excess stock and implementing plans to optimise inventory levels.
  • Supervising and supporting stores personnel, allocating workloads and ensuring service levels are maintained.
  • Coaching and developing team members while promoting a positive, safety-focused and customer-oriented culture.
  • Building effective relationships with suppliers to secure the right combination of value, service and availability.
  • Supporting procurement activity through supplier benchmarking, order management d cost control.
  • Monitoring supplier performance, delivery times and quality, while sourcing alternative solutions for difficult-to-obtain parts where required.
  • Working closely with Workshop, Fleet, Procurement and Operations teams to ensure parts availability supports asset uptime.
  • Coordinating urgent parts requirements to minimise vehicle and plant downtime.
  • Ensuring mandatory consumables, safety equipment and replacement components are available to support fleet compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate information across stock control and fleet management systems.
  • Producing reports covering stock utilisation, spend, stock accuracy and supplier performance.
  • Managing stock budgets and identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve processes.
  • Ensuring stores activities comply with company policies, health and safety requirements and environmental standards.
  • Maintaining a safe, organised and efficient working environment, with high standards of storage, handling and housekeeping.

We would love to hear from you if…

You have previous experience in a Stores Supervisor, Parts Supervisor, Parts Manager or similar role, ideally gained within plant hire, fleet management, construction, commercial vehicles or another engineering-related environment.

A strong understanding of stock control, inventory management and supplier coordination is important, together with good commercial awareness and an understanding of how effective inventory management can support cost control and operational efficiency. Along with solid leadership and organisational skills which are essential, with experience supervising a team and the ability to delegate effectively, manage competing priorities and maintain clear standards.

Additionally, good IT skills are required, including experience using inventory, stock control or fleet management systems and Microsoft Office. Experience of procurement processes, supplier performance management and workshop or planned maintenance activities would be advantageous.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills will be important, as you’ll work closely with teams across Plant, Fleet, Procurement, Workshops and Operations to ensure the right parts and equipment are available when needed.

 

Experience operating a forklift or telehandler is required as is a full UK driving licence.
