General Foreman

£55k-£60k

Ipswich

We are innovative - that’s why we need people like you to help us. People who enjoy finding new ways to solve problems and get things done!

We are currently seeking an experienced General Foreman to join our team on an exciting civils and utilities project based in Leiston, East Anglia (IP16). This varied scheme includes a broad scope of works such as groundworks, structural concrete and steel installations, drainage, pavements, building construction, ductile iron pipework and equipment racking.

This is a self-delivery role, where we are acting as Principal Contractor, so previous experience working in highly regulated environments and managing a variety of construction activities will be highly advantageous.

  • Here are some of the activities you will be involved in…
  • Manage day-to-day site operations across multiple work fronts, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality standards.
  • Plan and coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors, maintaining safe and efficient site logistics.
  • Lead on health, safety and environmental compliance, including RAMS, CDM, Temporary Works, LOLER and PUWER, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and near miss reporting.
  • Maintain accurate site records, reporting, and support programme updates while identifying and managing construction risks or design changes.
  • Deliver team briefings, toolbox talks and stand-downs, and provide regular coaching, mentoring and performance appraisals to site teams.
  • Act as the key interface with clients, stakeholders, and authorities, representing the business professionally and supporting long-term relationship building.
  • Ensure full compliance with company procedures and contribute to the development of internal teams and best practices.

We would love to hear from you if….

You have strong leadership skills, a proactive mindset and solid technical knowledge across a broad range of civil engineering disciplines. You’ll need to be confident in managing complex site activities, able to adapt to changing conditions and capable of keeping teams motivated and focused under pressure.

To succeed in this role, you must hold a Full UK Driving Licence, a valid CSCS Card (Supervisory level or above) and an SMSTS qualification. We are seeking candidates with demonstrable experience in the civils/utilities sector, ideally in a Foreman or Site Manager position, who also have a firm understanding of CDM regulations and site health and safety practices. Strong communication, planning and organisational skills are essential, along with proficiency in Word, Excel, and mobile reporting tools.

We would also value additional qualifications such as Temporary Works Supervisor certification, NRSWA, and Confined Spaces training. Experience with deep excavations, shuttering, and shoring is desirable, as is ILM Level 3 or equivalent formal management training. Familiarity with programme management tools would also be beneficial.
