Meet The Team

Donna Smith, Executive Head Housekeeper, Grand Hotel Birmingham

Donna Smith
Executive Head Housekeeper

“My journey so far has been one of unforgettable experiences from being part of the pre - opening team to the evolving existing team… we together have delivered exceptional hospitality from the rooms division with our Grand standards indulging in luxury of our lavish bedrooms with guests including entertainment & media, high profile movie stars, royalty and our regulars.

I’m proud to be working at Birmingham’s favourite hotel and extremely grateful to my team that I have the privilege to lead on a daily basis in delivering a Grand Experience to our guests. I thank each and everyone of the team members who play a part within the journey whatever their contribution is as I’m fortunate to share my knowledge of my hospitality career to nurture, mentor, progress and promote whilst being part of their journey at The Grand. We work hard to ensure every room is of a Grand Standard but more importantly we have fun and work together.

I look forward to continuing on my journey and to share with what the Grand’s next chapter has in store…”

Linen and Stock Supervisor

“In 2022 I lost my job and was worried because it was Covid and finding a good job was quite a task.

I found a job advert for a Linen Porter at The Grand Hotel Birmingham and although I had no experience I applied and fortunately I was accepted. Christmas was around the corner and the Commonwealth Games had just ended but the hotel was still busy. It was a bit challenging for me because I was not used to working in a hotel. However my colleagues understood my condition and they helped me overcome every challenge relating to my job.

I have worked in so many places but you don’t get such support and appreciation from colleagues and management. The staff here are always ready to assist and support anyone regardless the department they belong.

TGHB has equipped me with knowledge and skill through their online training modules. I always say TGHB is the best place to work in Birmingham and I have never regretted being part of the team.

In April 2024 I was promoted to Linen and Stock Supervisor which for me is a huge step in my life. There is so much opportunities and possibilities here for anyone who wants to excel in the hospitality industry.

I have no intention of leaving TGHB but even if I do, it will forever remain the best place I’ve worked.”

“The Grand Hotel Birmingham is more than a workplace; it’s a community that values excellence and its people. Being part of the pre-opening team was an incredible journey and it has been remarkable bringing Birmingham’s Sleeping beauty to life. Starting as the Reservations Manager I had the opportunity to develop and grow within my role and have since been promoted to Revenue Director. I look forward to many more years of success and growth.”
