An informal, co-educational independent day school in Golders Green, North London for students from reception to sixth form. Catering for 750 students and teachers. We offer a core feeding of snacks and lunch with some hospitality. This is a term-time only role working 42 weeks a year and operates Monday to Friday.

We are looking for a talented Barista & Food Service Assistant to join our team at one of our prestigious contracts in London.

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Barista & Food Service Assistant to work with fresh seasonal ingredients & regularly changing bespoke menus. The job-holder will be creative and have the opportunity to showcase their skillset.

  • Serve customers, visitors and guest in line with company and client service standards and expectations.
  • Handling money in the form of both cash and card (using card machine), and doing weekly cash count with the Bursary Officer.
  • Opportunity to work with students as part of our community endeavours.
  • Keeping the kiosk clean, tidy and hygienic.
  • Prepare all service areas for the day’s business.
  • Prepare basic food for sale/service, following good hygiene and safety practices and to the standard specified.
  • Restock and replenish stocks and consumables as required during service periods, pre-empt customer needs and achieve optimum customer service delivery.
  • Keep the kitchen informed of any food running out and pre-empt any delays in customer waiting.eg. ensuring cakes, pastries, wraps and sandwiches.
  • Support the kitchen team in replenishing food items during service.
  • Prepare, set-up, serve, clear, clean and store away any food, beverage or equipment required for special functions/hospitality.
  • Operate cleaning, dishwashing equipment when necessary. Thoroughly clean and store equipment, service, preparation and storage areas.
  • Maintain professional levels of communications when dealing with customers whilst ensuring King Alfred School standards are upheld at all times.
  • Serve customers, visitors and guests in line with King Alfred School service standards and expectations.
  • Clean, fill fridges and ensure that all equipment is working correctly.
  • Empty, remove and store rubbish / recycle rubbish in the correct place.
  • Keep the dry store clean and store away the deliveries.
  • Operate tills accurately, employing all procedures as directed for the correct, hygienic handing of credit sales.
  • Ensure attendance to all staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedural requirements of both legislation and company are adhered to in order to promote a professional and flexible approach at all times.
  • Ensure that the correct uniform is worn neatly and cleanly at all times.
  • Ensure all necessary checks are carried out in the service and associated areas for food temperatures.
  • Be conscientious with regard to Health & Safety and report any hazards to the manager.
  • Be prepared to occasionally work evening and/or weekend for functions and events.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake such tasks as are commensurate with the position and on the direction of the line manager.

Daily routine:
7.00 – 9.30 KASBucks Coffee Kiosk
9.30 – 11.00 KASBucks Prep
11.00 – 11.30 Break
11.30 – 1.00 Kitchen

Person Specification:
In order to fill this role effectively, the ideal candidate will have the following skills and experiences:

  • Team working abilities, listening skills, the ability to work on own initiative, impeccable personal presentation, hygiene and behaviour to others, Food Hygiene certificate preferred.
  • The ability to be adaptable and be flexible as necessary. Reliable and able to demonstrate an open attentive approach to customer service. Deal with customer complaints and queries.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take some responsibility.
  • Ability to manage some moderately heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing.

Knowledge / competencies:

  • Hold a level 2 Food Hygiene qualification.
  • Barista experience would be desirable but not essential as training will be provided
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and courteously with people in order to provide a high level of customer care
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to receive, record and transmit messages accurately and quickly
  • Practice of building good working relationships with members of staff and the wider KAS community
  • Relevant experience of customer and / or food preparation environment is preferred.
