IDS is a leading in-vitro diagnostic solution provider to the clinical laboratory market. We develop, manufacture and market innovative immunoassays and automated immunoanalyser technologies to provide improved diagnostic outcomes for patients.

IDS Boldon is the global IDS Headquarters occupying a single, multi-disciplined site.

The site focuses on the manufacture and distribution of manual Immunoassay products. On site Purchasing, Logistics, Production, Quality Control and Process Development departments manage the supply chain, supported by local Sales Support, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Finance departments. As Group Headquarters, IDS Boldon also houses all head office functions.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team and undertake a variety of key laboratory activities. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the on-time delivery of manufactured products and investigation projects, maintaining accurate records in line with our IDS Quality System, and supporting the calibration and testing of laboratory equipment. Your responsibilities will also include managing stock records, ensuring compliance with biohazard rules, and assisting in the development of procedures for new products. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a laboratory environment.

Principal Accountabilities 

  • Support seamless manufacturing - complete manufacture processes using column chromatography, prepare buffers and perform ELISA testing delivering quality products.
  • Perform lab activities – Carry out essential tasks to support efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure on-time product delivery – Assist in manufacturing and investigation projects to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records – Keep detailed and compliant documentation in line with quality standards.
  • Support equipment calibration – Help test and calibrate lab equipment to maintain precision and reliability.
  • Manage lab stocks – Monitor and maintain stock levels to ensure availability of critical materials.
  • Ensure compliance – Follow IDS Quality System guidelines and uphold biohazard safety standards.
  • Inspect incoming materials – Conduct physical checks on materials for the Product Development team.
  • Assist with documentation – Help draft procedures and reports for new product development.
  • Uphold safety standards – Take responsibility for health and safety, protecting yourself and colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • BSc in a scientific field

OR

  • Level 3 qualification / Apprenticeship in science supplemented with work experience in a laboratory environment.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong laboratory skills – Confident in pipetting, operating lab equipment, and calibrating machinery.
  • Knowledge of biochemical methods – Familiar with key techniques and technologies relevant to the role.
  • Effective communicator – Able to clearly share ideas, collaborate with colleagues, and document work accurately
  • Organised and efficient – Skilled in time management and prioritising tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Curious and analytical mindset – A problem-solver with a keen interest in learning and improving processes.
  • Independent yet team-oriented – Capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision while contributing to a team.
  • Computer Literate – Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced in data interpretation and analysis.

Experience

  • Laboratory experience (via studies or work experience) is essential 
  • Previous experience with biomolecules desirable
  • Previous experience working to cGMP standards desirable
