IDS is a leading in-vitro diagnostic solution provider to the clinical laboratory market. We develop, manufacture and market innovative immunoassays and automated immunoanalyser technologies to provide improved diagnostic outcomes for patients.

IDS Italy is based in Spello and was founded in 1996 by Diametra, in 2014 the site became a subsidiary of IDS. Our site in Italy engages in the manufacturing, research and development of manual invitro diagnostics devices (ELISA). Activities at the Spello site include own brand production and OEM production of bulk supplies, unlabelled reagents, and customised packaging. In addition, The R&D team also engages in the development and customised design of in vitro diagnostic reagents for IDS automated instruments.

We’re seeking a Financial Accountant to join us on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract with the potential to transition into a permanent role. Based in Spello, you’ll support the Deputy Finance Manager in managing day-to-day finance and accounting operations. You’ll ensure accurate, timely processing of finance transactions, assist with month-end closing, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.

A key part of the role involves stock control—verifying BOM accuracy, tracking stock movements, conducting inventory checks, and analysing variances. As part of a small, hands-on finance team, you’ll also gain exposure to ad-hoc projects and varied tasks.

Principal Accountabilities 

General Ledger & Month-End

  • Post journal entries and ensure accurate month-end processes, including accruals and reconciliations.
  • Support R&D and QC cost reporting, cost center analysis, and preparation of month-end financial packs.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process invoices, verify accuracy against orders, reconcile accounts, and manage supplier relationships.
  • Assist with credit control, debt collection, and commission calculations, while preparing ad hoc reporting.

Stock Control & Cost Analysis

  • Oversee inventory counts, analyse stock movements, and review BOMs and standard costs.
  • Monitor stock levels, calculate provisions, and optimize inventory processes.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Costing

  • Assist in preparing budgets, monthly variance analysis, and cost savings initiatives.
  • Support margin reporting and inventory costing systems.

Intercompany & Fixed Assets

  • Aid in intercompany reconciliation and rebillings.
  • Manage fixed assets, including purchases, disposals, and depreciation.

Audit, Compliance & Ad-Hoc Projects

  • Support audits, external declarations, and one-off financial projects.
  • Collaborate with other departments and assist with IT coordination.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications

  • Bookkeeping qualification or solid understanding of bookkeeping principles.
  • Part-qualified accountant (e.g., AAT or equivalent Italian qualification).


Skills & Knowledge

  • Proven experience managing the books and records of an Italian company, with knowledge of Italian and international accounting standards.
  • Familiarity with cost center accounting and a strong grasp of Italian taxation rules, including VAT and local taxes.
  • Strong English language skills and the ability to effectively communicate in a professional environment.
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to meet tight deadlines and solve problems proactively.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), and general IT systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.


Experience
Minimum of 2 years as a Bookkeeper or Accountant.
Experience in stock control, monitoring, and cost control.
