We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive and passionate People & Culture Manager to join our team.
Reporting to the General Manager, we are seeking a candidate with previous Human Resources leadership experience, preferably in a hotel or hospitality environment.

As People and Culture Manager, you will support the Guidance Team and Heads of Department in leading their teams to success by ensuring they have the right tools, processes, systems and procedures in place.
As a servant leader and the example for The Shepherd Mayfair’s Culture, you will create and drive an environment that is gracious, accountable, authentic, attentive, friendly and fun and inspires the entire Hotel team to deliver an engaging luxury experience for our guests.
The ideal candidate must be a People and Culture | Human Resources expert and have a minimum of three of the four below previous experiences | attributes:
- Opened a quality Hospitality Venue before in a Leadership role [ does not necessarily need to be in a hotel]
- Has worked in a 5 Star | Luxury Hotel previously
- Has London experience
- Has played an active role in developing and leading a successful high performing Culture
Responsibilities of the People and Culture Manager will include but are not limited to:
• Support the Guidance Team in compiling and implementing the People and Culture [ P&C] strategy and budget, providing professional P&C advice in all areas and aligning P&C activities accordingly
• Develop ways to shape culture, reinforcing the behaviours required to create a high-performance environment and improve business performance.
• Work closely with the Guidance Team to ensure structures and manpower resources are fit for purpose and are scheduled in the most cost effective yet guest-centric manner, guiding and supporting change where necessary.
• Support the Financial Controller in the scheduling of team members, payroll and overtime. In the Financial Controllers absence, lead the weekly payroll meeting to ensure efficiencies are in place where applicable.
• Be relentless when it comes to managing lateness, sickness and absenteeism and that holidays are managed throughout the year.
• Ensure there is a robust recruitment process in place that is a FIT and MATCH for The Shepherd Mayfair Culture and that those with recruitment responsibilities adhere to it.
• Support the Guidance Team and Heads of Departments in the recruitment of talent for their teams and play an active role in the interviewing process.
• Produce and develop an orientation that includes certification that is in line with The Shepherd Mayfair’s Culture and positioning as a luxury Mayfair London hotel.
• Ensure that the onboarding process is followed in line with Axiom Hospitality’s guidelines and that not only is the Axiom Induction part of it but also The Shepherd Mayfair’s.
• Oversee the performance management review process ensuring it is timely, authentic and fair but where and when needed, firm and holds not just team members but also leaders to account.
• Be relentless when it comes to the timely completion of the companies’ online trainings, compliance, health and safety and fire life safety trainings.
• In line with The Shepherd Mayfair’s Culture with the support of the Heads of Departments ensure that wherever and whenever possible there are activities and surprise and delights for the team to drive employee engagement.
• Partner with the Kitchen leadership team and Food and Beverage Administrator in ensuring employee meals are not just nutritious but there is variety, and menus are adjusted several times a year.
• Be present; spend time in the operation to understand what the needs of the departments leaders and teams are. Ask the tough questions, challenge uniform standards, conduct ‘stay’ interviews, mine for conflict but most importantly be fair and build a culture of trust.
• Ensure there is regular stock take of uniforms and that prior to joining every team member has a uniform that is in line with the Look Book.
• Identify and recommend improvements and enhancements of Human Resource practices, systems, processes and policies where such changes will add value to the business.
• Manage the salary review, bonus, service charge and incentive process in conjunction with the Financial Controller.
• Maintain up to date knowledge on employment law and ensure compliance with it and company policy
• Support and provide guidance and advice for the Guidance Team and Heads of Department in poor performance and conduct challenges. Have a robust process in place that is adhered to and that not just protects the business but also the employee in line with company policy and employment law
• Manage and maintain an effective relationship with external professional advisors and service providers.
• Prepare for the next | new Financial Year the Human Resources budget in a timely and accurate manner.
