Pastry Sous Chef
Kitchen - The Barbary
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Up to £43,000/annum
The Barbary, located in the heart of Covent Garden, is on the lookout for an experienced and enthusiastic Pastry Chef to join our kitchen team.
Our small space is bursting with the vibrant colours, flavours, sounds and aromas of the cuisine of the North African Coast. Sat up in the midst of the action at our kitchen counter, the atmosphere here remains at the forefront of London’s dining scene.
You’ll be:
- Passionate about menu development and interested in the cuisine of North Africa through to Southern Europe. As the driving force behind our bread and dessert offerings at The Barbary and The Barbary Next Door, previous experience with our flavours and techniques is essential to the role.
- Accomplished in both sweet and savoury. You will play a key role in developing our bread and dessert menu across The Barbary and The Barbary Next Door, so extensive experience working with both bread and pastry is a must.
- Independent and self-motivated. This is a hands-on production and development role, working 5 daytime shifts from 8am to 5pm. You will be in charge of the pastry section, from development to production, quality control, and ordering.
- A strong, nurturing leader. You will train our chefs on the pastry section to ensure consistently high standards when they cover the section, sharing your knowledge and best practices.
- Comfortable with admin duties and commercially minded, with a strong handle on kitchen financials. You will be responsible for costing of the pastry menu, ordering for the section and supporting the Head Chef with kitchen maintenance duties.
Our benefits:
- 5 daytime shifts per week from 8am to 5pm, no doubles!
- Internal growth. You will have the opportunity to develop your career in an ambitious and award-winning restaurant group.
- Up to £2,000 Employee Referral Scheme available to all.
- Paid development courses – WSET, Watershed and more.
- Generous staff discount of up to 50% across all our Studio Paskin venues.
- Cost price wine and supplier discounts.
- Enhanced parental leave package.
- Cycle-to-work scheme.
- Emergency cash and weekly wage advances with PayCaptain.
- Partnership with Kelly's Cause and automatic enrolment onto Hospitality Action’s Employee Assistance Programme – access to counselling, remote GP/physio services, legal advice, and more.
We believe that taking care of our team isn’t an extra perk – it’s our responsibility. At work, you will always have access to free staff meals, proper breaks, and Mental Health First Aid-trained managers to support you.
